Tonight on Supernanny - The Goins Family
Karolee and Jay Goins have a beautiful young family with a not-so-pretty problem… Mom, pregnant with number four, is completely exhausted by her brood’s out-of-control behavior. Khalin, 7, has attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); Kolben, 5, is overly aggressive and little Kadance, 2, is learning all of her big brothers’ worst tricks. To make matters even more difficult for Karolee, dad Jay acts like a kid himself most of the time.
This will be a great one for new mothers. I’m sure Super Nanny will touch on how to deal with those little jealousies that older siblings tend to have when a new baby comes home.
Karolee already has by sympathies! God love that mother of three and pregnant with number 4.

I wanted to comment on tonights show about the Goins Family. First off I wanted to thank you for doing a show with a child who has Attention Deficit Disorder. My son also struggles with this everyday and I seem to cry everyday because I don’t know how to help him. He is taking medication and this helps but it also has side effects that leave me feeling guilty. I wish somehow I could turn the world off for him so he could finish his work at school and at home. Most people don’t understand what it is like to suffer from this and they blame it on poor discipline. I just wanted to thank you for educating the world a little more and letting people know that ADHD is real and its not the child’s fault. THANKS!!

Feb.27,2007 I to watched the way supernanny addressed the Goins family, with ther son age 6 who has A.D.H.D. I to have a son age6, also a son 13yrs. old both with A.D.H.D. I to had to learn how life was for a child with this.It is very hard to deal with at times. After I had my first son, to find out that my younger son had it,I cried not sad to deal with it all over but how hard it was going to be for him.I didnt want to put my sons on meds. But why shouldnt I give the them every chance to lead a normal life as possible. Its not only meds. it also took counsling, alot of time learning about adhd, being hands on,working with thier teachers.(NOT all teachers really know the exstent of adhd).I give each teacher paper work every year.UNDERSTANDING….is a big part.Like JO JO said they dont, want to be like this. They are GOOD kids. Its a struggel from day to day. But so wearth it, when they accomplish there task. The smile and the joy, puts all the flustration be hind you.IT DOES GET BETTER……THANK YOU…..

I think the city was Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a great episode. My son is 10 and has adhd. I thought it was great how Jo made the parents understand that it was not the child’s fault - or purposeful. I hope alot of skeptical parents AND teachers see the episode. The adults in the childs life often make it so much more difficult. I also desperately want to have a copy of the episode. My husband missed it and I want it to show other family members to help them understand and have compassion for my son. I will pay a fee, shipping and handling, whatever if someone has a copy. Please!!

This Supernanny episode was excellent. At first I was apprehensive when I heard the commercial that one of the children involved had ADHD. I was afraid Jo was going to come in and put up all of her rule charts and behavior plans, which typically work well for the families featured. As those of us with ADHD children know-these things don’t always work. However, the depiction of this family and Jo/show was right on. It was wonderful to have ADHD depicted in the way that it is-not the child’s purposeful fault! I loved how she had the parents scale back on the homework time (frustrating for all of us), and the ways in which she helped the mom cope and realize all the good things about Khalin and not just his “ADHD”. I know because I am and have walked in her shoes with my 6 1/2 year old son with ADHD-combined. It is hard and very difficult for families to often deal with-teachers, schools, doctors, really don’t get it unless they have lived with it. I do work in the elementary school setting-my son has taught me alot! It was just really nice to see the show depict the ADHD child in a positive light!

My 8 year old has ADD. He has been on meds but we hated the side effect. We are trying the Feingold diet and hope to see good results. PARENTS! It is worth the reasearch and trouble to find a food approach rather that drugs. No one knows the long term effect they might have.

I watched the ADHD episode with interest because my son, (now 13 yrs.) had ADHD horribly as a toddler. We were desperate, knowing his behavior was way beyond terrible twos. We were referred to a homeopathic practioner by our family doc, because he also had a ton of food allergies, etc. and was always miserable. As he took the homeopathic remedies for his allergies, the ADHD stuff went away, too. It was truely a miracle and a gift from God. My heart went out to the Goin family. Been there, done that - even the husband who was out to lunch. We have grown up and changed a lot from those days. But there was definately a connection between the junk food and my son’s behavior. And homeopathic remedies rock!!!!

Definitely LDS(Mormon) family. Salt Lake City is the first clue and the picture of the phrase “Familes are Forever” on the wall going up the stairs is the closer.

Hi, I was just curious about the comments abouth the show for some reason, being that it has been a year since we taped that episode!! I would love to have people to talk to who are going through the same thing as me. Things got a little better after the taping, but I had struggled with finding medication because they cause khalin to have tics. He now has a new teacher that is not very willing to help me because she has said she has to many kids in her class and a lot of them are misbehaved…I am so frustrated by the lack of support and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions with dealing with the schools when children have this condition… Thank you for all your support and good luck to all you as well!! karolee
