The Older You Get…
Just yesterday, I was having a discussion with my husbands daughter. We were discussing grades and how much more important they are then a social life or even friends.
I know it’s so difficult to see at this age and boy, do I remember having those same types of discussions with my mom.
It wasn’t so long ago that I can’t remember thinking my mom didn’t have a clue and that times had changed SO much since she was a teen — but boy was I WRONG in so many ways.
It was as if I were knee deep in a moment of de-ja-vu yesterday and hearing my own mother say the exact words I found myself relaying.
More and more I see myself becoming just like my mom. Which really isn’t a bad thing so much — more so, it’s difficult to look back and realize just how little I actually did know at the one time in my life when I thought I knew everything.
Have you found yourself being more like your own parents?
Do you purposely try to parent like you were parented or do you make every effort to parent differently?
And while you’re at it — any tips on how to get a kid to WANT to get good grades.
It’s really rather difficult at this point as the previous influence was to teach that grades weren’t that important and it was ok to get an F as long as you claim you were giving it your best.
My belief is, I could send my dog to school to get an F - absolutely no effort has to be made to get that — at least a D is a little effort — right?
