Ever wonder how to respond to any of the following?
“Mine!”
“It’s not fair.”
“You’re not the boss of me.”
“I want it now!”
“You never let me do anything.”
“I don’t like you.”
Now, I’ve found how the professionals say parents should respond to these types of statements, but I’m curious as to how parents actually do respond.
We all know that the professionals aren’t always right! Right?

What I always do is to be calm and acknowledge the child’s feelings (eg: sad, angry) by saying, “I know you’re angry because you can’t play with that toy…”
The objective is to make sure the kid is calm too and he’s willing to listen to you. This is half the battle won.
