Teen Style - What’s Worse?

by Gayla McCord on September 6th, 2008

jeans

Just out of curiosity, I would like to take a little poll of all you wonderful readers to see what you think is worse when it comes to teens and their clothing.

Clothing Item 1:

A pair of jeans that has holes in the knees and slightly below the knees

Clothing Item 2:

A t-shirt that says “You’re so slow you can’t beat your meat”

Now, if you were a school official and had these two items in your school, would you overlook them both?  Would you overlook one and if so, which one?

If you decided not to overlook the article of clothing, what would you do to correct the problem?

Obviously there’s a story brewing here but I’ll wait until I hear back from a few of you readers.

Let’s just say you are so totally NOT going to believe this one!

I’d say the shirt is worse than the torn jeans, but I can see school administrators blowing a gasket about them and missing the point of the T-shirt.

If I was a school administrator, I’d let the torn jeans slide — wide open holes in the derriere might be a problem.

As for the T-shirt, I might require the child to turn it inside out, instead of making a huge deal out of it.

Hm, tough choice. If I was a school official, I might think the ripped jeans were because of tight finances at home and possibly overlook that one. But that’s a big maybe. I’d ask the T-shirt wearer to go home and change into something more appropriate for school. If they couldn’t go home due to a ride situation or whatever, I’d give them a “Go School!” sweatshirt or something to wear. Sexual slang on clothing is not acceptable for school, or minors.

The t-shirt is definitely the worse of the two because it’s so blatantly inappropriate. I think that making the student go home to change or giving them a school sweatshirt for the day would work. I think the school officials would overlook the torn jeans unless the holes were huge.

I think the T-shirt is worse than the jeans. In my school if someone had an inappropriate shirt on they used to make them turn it inside out.
