In the continuing storm of Supernanny controversy, some experts have taken exception to the word “naughty.” The concern is that calling a child naughty will damage the child’s psyche and self-confidence.
Part of the rational behind the concern is a self-fulfilling prophesy argument. Call a child naughty often enough, and they will undoubtedly end up being [...]

ADOPTION – are you adoptive parents and have problems like everyone else, but also there are issues particular to adoption?

Nancy Watkins wrote up a small piece on Supernanny’s other book, Ask Supernanny: What Every Parent Wants to Know. She highlights five key lessons:
A “problem child” usually doesn’t exist in a vacuum.
Routines are essential and should be structured around mealtimes.
Children are happier after a good night’s rest.
Spell out the rules.
The “naughty step” is portable.

OK, this goes in my “Give Me A Break!” file. The latest reality help-tv, Supernanny-styled show is all about the dogs. “It’s Me or the Dog” nips at the heels of the “Dog Whisperer,” seeking to bring domestication and harmony into chaotic animal owning households. Playing the part of Supernanny Jo Frost, is Victoria Stilwell, [...]

Ashley Adams has a report on Supernanny’s most recent US stop, filming in Conewago, PA outside of Hannover/Gettysburg. The family, who are not named, are comprised of four children and Mom, who is recently widowed. “She has gone through a lot of different adversities,” says Jo. “I’m glad she made the phone call.”
No word on [...]
