The Recap (after the jump)

Once again the home is palatial: covered entry, in ground pool, 6′ brick privacy wall.

The boys pretty much ignore Jo. They terrorize each other, and mom and dad are pretty much powerless. The boys do what they want, when they want. Mom’s taking care of the evening stuff, while Dad sits around playing Lego! Now, I love Lego, but come on Dad: BE A DAD!

Get this! Trevor doesn’t even wipe his own butt! Mom has to do it for him, or he pitches a fit.

OK, Mom’s exausted, Dad’s surfing the web, and the boys are still up past 10. Oh, now their in Mom and Dad’s room watching TV.

Next morning, Jo pops in at the preschool to see how the boys get along. All the kids are playing nicely except two. Guess which two?

Parent Meeting
Jo starts with Dad. It’s been one year since they bought the preschool, and Dad started staying home. She wants him to find the same level of satisfaction in his new job, stay-at-home-dad, as he had in his previous one. The boys need SOME responsibility. Mom and Dad need to find a new balance.

Supernanny starts with a routine. Jeff needs some structure. Mom needs to get out of work and have something left over for the kids.

Onto the boys. First, language. Jo introduces the “Talking Towers.” Every day the boys use good language, they get a balloon. 10 balloons = a prize.

Now, structure. The boys don’t want to clean up their rooms, so Jo takes most of their toys away. Every day that they clean their room, they get one back. Travis freaks, and mom is starting to crack.

Bedtime routine. 8pm for Travis; 8:30 for Trevor. Mom is hating it, because this is when she usually gets her cuddles in, but she hangs in there, and the boys are asleep in no time. Mom and Dad have the evening to themselves!

Commercial for the new TMX Elmo!

OK, next day, and Jo’s working with Dad. The family has a routine; so does Dad. He’s getting on well, until there’s a cry for help from bathroom. Trevor wants help… not so much. With some encouragement he takes care of business himself.

That afternoon, Travis melts down after a game. Dad, for the first time ever, disciplines one of his boys. The naughty step works… eventually.

Time to head to the preschool, where once again Mom capitulates. Jo confronts her. Mom says she’s wants to change… but it’s not convincing.

Parent Evaluation
Dad’s doing well. Instead of dropping the kids off at the preschool, he’s playing with them. Later, however, Mom and Dad are to busy to follow through when the boys get into the confiscated toys.

Later Mom “plays” with Trevor, and it’s clear that she’s not interested. And when it comes to language, everyone’s to blame except Mom… Yeah! Right! The tape doesn’t lie, and Mom seems to be a four-letter thesaurus.

Reinforcement
The Talking Towers are working. The confiscated toys are put away… for real, and Jo reminds Mom and Dad to follow through.

Now, Jo gets Mom back into playing with her own kids, especially Trevor. It doesn’t take long, and Trevor really responds to the attention and the enthusiasm.

Jo’s off, and Mom and Dad are on their own.

Family Update
The family is playing. The boys are obeying. Dad is thriving. Mom is still working on finding the home/work balance… but she’s working at it! Looks like the Uva Family are headed in the right direction.

Another Supernanny success!
