Supernanny Rules

Open Thread - Topic Breastfeeding

by Gayla on March 14th, 2007

With the most recent episode of Supernanny in mind and the debate that’s continuing in the blogosphere on this very topic, I’ve put together a poll in the right column and hope you’ll take the time to respond.

Further, I’d like to open this thread to comments - inviting both sides to participate.

Before we begin, I’d like to point out that my stand is this:

In a world that is so twisted that a man will use an infant from his wife’s home-based day care in a sexually explicit Internet broadcast - I simply think that breastfeeding is a special connection that should be private and not place the child at risk of becoming someone’s twisted form of entertainment.

Whether it’s a perversion toward the child or toward the exposed breast, there’s just too much “exposure” going on for me to find comfort in supporting open and public breastfeeding.

You are aware that breastfeeding in public is protected by law? So I’m sorry (okay, I’m not) that you can’t be comfortable with public breastfeeding, but the federal government is, and the states are, and they are working to protect breastfeeding mothers from people like you.

Honestly, what do you expect? Breastfeeding mothers to never leave the house? Or that moms should pump their milk and use bottles whenever they’re in public (ignoring the realities that a lot of babies won’t take bottles, a lot of moms don’t get much from a pump, and that it’s infinitely more work that way)? Either way, you are showing quite a bit of ignorance with your statements.

I am a breastfeeding peer counselor and it is my job to get pregnant mother to breastfeed thier babies. I tell all my moms and future moms that there is no problem breastfeeding in public, I have embarrassment and the public working against me, and now this show. I “used to” watch the show and got a lot of tips but if she came into my house and told me to stop nursing my 15 month old, she might just get an earfull.
…and furthermore, if you know the right way to nurse your baby in public people can’t even tell!

What about the possibility of pulling out of Iraq, letting Iran invade and lose resources fighting their own kind,
and then come in and mop up the dregs?

To put it quite simply and non-mechanical, blackheads are little bumps embedded into the pores of our skin. They are usually yellowish or blackish in color.
Blackheads are a type of acne called an open comedone. According to medical practitioners,
blackhead pop are the first stage of acne!!!
You can extract blackheads yourself if there is no sign of infection on or surrounding the blemish.
