Kanye West’s mother on parenting and more

by Gayla on September 26th, 2007

Most people know that I’ve never been a big fan of Kanye West. Mostly because he thinks it’s ok for him to be politically incorrect, while trying to force his hand to make sure everyone else remains within the confines of those politically correct walls. If he can’t control what people say, he throws the discrimination card.

While reading the interview conducted with Kanye’s mother, I’m not sure I understand where his views are coming from - other than the possibility that his parents were one’s who were prone to believe that things were always someone elses fault. By allowing the blame to be placed on others, Kanye has been given free reign to place himself upon a pedestal.

For his mother to even mention the name Kanye in the same breath as Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Barack Obama, or Jesus Christ is displaying an enormous level of denial.

While Kanye may be an idol to teenage hip hoppers, he’s far from being of the same caliber as MLK and Gandhi - and no where near Jesus like.

It’s one thing to tell your child that “Shy is next to stupid. Speak up!” And it’s another to support every single thing they say or do, even when their “freedom of speech” is taking things a bit too far.

Having been a shy child growing up, I have to wonder what message Kanye and his mother are sending out to the children who are introverted and shy?

I’m learning more and more that most hip hop is one guest that is not, nor will ever be, welcomed in my house. With two of our four children leaning more on the shy side, I refuse to have the likes of Kanye impressing on my children that they are even remotely stupid.

To Kanye, I’d have to say, stupid is as stupid does and it looks like the shoe is a perfect fit!
