Daddy Has The Brown Bottle Flu
This may not be the most perfect place for this post, but it’s all about parenting or lack thereof and just how it does impact the kids.
So all you folks who think your brown bottle addictions don’t effect your kids, think again! Even if you’re the absent parent, it still hurts!
Last week my boys spent the entire week planning out the perfect gift for their father — finding the perfect card and planning everything they were going to do with their dad at his birthday celebration that Saturday at grandmas house.
A special shirt was designed by eager little hands who then delivered the design idea to a specialty shop to have the product made. They were thrilled with the outcome and just knew dad would be too!
Saturday rolled around, grandma picked them up and their exciting day with dad was underway.
Not!
There was no call, no excuse, no stopping in, nothing!
Dad never showed.
The next day he called, the boys refused to talk to him.
He told me the same old story that I’d heard a million times before. Phone wasn’t working - dunno why! Worked late — on Saturday? Was sick with fever and nausea after work, had to go home and lay down.
My one son said it all when he said “I know why he was sick.”
So once again I was left to piece together a million little pieces of tiny broken spirits — trying to make it hurt just a little less.
After having not spent any time with their father in over two years, they thought he had finally changed. That their prayers were being heard and their wishes being granted.
They weren’t
It doesn’t matter that my boys are now 14 instead of 4. The pain is no less for them and it’s certainly no less for me watching them hurt.
And it was just another case of the brown bottle flu.
