Are You Raising a Long Term Liability?

by Gayla on November 29th, 2007

The primary job of a parent is to prepare their children for how the world really works. We teach and train our children from childhood the knowledge and skills necessary to become independent adults, self-sufficient and upstanding members of society. In the real world, you don’t always get what you want.

You see it all the time - teens or young adults who don’t have a clue how to function in the ‘real world’ - and this article sums it up nicely.

More and more kids are either not leaving home or are returning home because of the “whine factor” and not so much out of necessity.

Are you a parent who is creating a long term liability out of your child?

That was always one of my biggest fears. That my child would not grow up and leave home - that one or both would develop the Peter Pan syndrome and I’d be a parent for the rest of my life.

Don’t get me wrong, I love being a mom, but one of these days, I’d love to be a grandmother, love and spoil my grandkids and send them home!

Telling It Like It Is has the complete post that got me going on this. Check it out. You might just end up doing a self evaluation when you’re done. I did!
