And I thought I was a harsh parent

A Tennessee mother fed up with her daughter’s misbehavior took an unusual tack in for latest punishment, making her stand on a busy street corner with an attention-getting sign.
Tashara Wilkins, 13, held a sign Sunday reading, “I don’t obey my parents, I’m a liar. I steal from my mom. I have a bad attitude.”
I’ll admit, I’ve gone so far as to tell my kids if they didn’t stop fighting I was going to make them stand in the front yard and hold hands. But I don’t think I would ever consider going to this extreme as a form of punishment.
Is it me or is this just a wee bit over the top?

I think it’s a bit over the top. That is going to be one memory that the daughter is going to keep with her for a very long time! There had to be a better way!

I also think publicly humiliating the child is too extreme. I try to keep my discipline measures within the family.

Not knowing times tables be one thing, but lying and stealing another.
Me and another girl stole candy from drugstore when I was 12 (more than once, just once we got caught) and our moms made us stand in front of store all Saturday with sign “STOLE From Mr Martin, Banned From His Store” then had to wear THIEF signs on our shirts to church and spend Sunday cleaning nearby park.
Never stole again and don’t think Tyra did neither.
Now I’m 22 and I’ll do same to my 5-year-old girl if she need it when she be that age.
