Explanation of the advice feature is here.
Our first question is from Sheilah:
My friend has an eleven year old boy and 5 year old daughter who fight and tattle tale over EVERYTHING. They recently got a kitten. Well, the fighting has gotten out of control…from the time they get out of bed in the morning, “it’s my turn to hold the cat!”. Now they’re out of school for the holidays and it goes on ALL DAY!! Please help, my friend is thinking of returning the cat to teach the children a lesson. What is the fix for their behaviour all around? Thank you…(my friend is too busy mediating, so I’m e-mailing for her.)
Let’s help Sheilah…any comments are welcome!

before returnung the cat perhaps your friend could have seperate times for the children to have with the cat and while each child is having their time with the cat your friend could give the other child something to do that they will enjoy and by seperating them for a short time will give her some peace if only for a few minunts.

Thank you Peggie-Sue (I love your name!) That is wonderful advice.
Maybe you could even give each child specific responsibilities with the cat..that way, they’re both ‘in charge’ and not in competition with each other. They could trade the duties each week. And, they’ll feel proud that they have responsibility. :)
