A Supernanny Holiday, #4: Jo Offers Advice
As we all know, the holidays can be extremely stressful for both parents and children. Supernanny herself, Jo Frost, offers the following tips:
From the Detroit Free Press:
Jo Frost wants to eliminate the stress of the holidays and make it a magical time for parents and children.
Sounds like a job for a superhero. Or a supernanny.
Frost, the star of the ABC reality show “Supernanny,” has teamed with Pampers and the National Sleep Foundation to educate parents about the importance of getting enough sleep.
Recently, Frost shared her tips on how to make the rest of December less frazzled and more fun.
• Sleep. It’s important to stick to bedtime routines as much as possible, even if you’re throwing a party or spending the night with relatives. “Make sleep a priority, so everybody is able to maintain the enthusiasm and the spirit of Christmas.”
• Snacks. All things in moderation, from candy canes to eggnog. Remember, “just because we, as adults, allow ourselves to indulge, it doesn’t mean that we have to be irresponsible and overindulge our children,” advises Frost.
• Finding meaning. To teach your kids about the giving side of the holidays, “parents need to set the example,” says Frost. They’ll learn by watching you volunteer for a favorite charity or donate presents to families in need.
• Discipline. Be consistent and don’t drag Santa into it. Frost isn’t keen on warning kids to behave or Mr. Claus won’t bring them anything. “Now poor old Santa, he’s being used as a threat alongside Supernanny,” laughs Frost. “What can I say?”

I have a 17 month old daughter who cries everytime she lays down to sleep and wakes up in the night several times a week and is up for an hour or too. I do NOT want to co-sleep but every book I am finding suggests putting her in my bed. She was a very sick infant with reflux, respiratory problems, and frequent ear infections so I always got up with her as a baby because something was always wrong. Now, she is healthy and not teething but still won’t sleep. She fights me if I rock her. She fights if I try to lay down with her, and she screams if I am sitting in the room with her. Currently if she wakes in the middle of the night I am putting her in the pack n’ play in our basement (our house is small) and laying on the couch by her until she falls asleep, but she still cries for at least 30 minutes, but at least my husband and older daugter are sleeping.
