Parenting Teens Through Controversial Issues

It seems like one of our sister sites is often faced with the topic of breastfeeding in public and the controversy that surrounds it in many cases. Most recently, the discussion of Why Social Networking Sites Don’t Like Breastfeeding.
I only have a few thoughts on this topic - while I do understand BOTH sides, […]

Michael Jackson Didn’t Marry His Nanny

Reports were floating around Thursday that Jackson had married 40-year-old Grace Rwaramba, the nanny of his three children, in Las Vegas earlier this year.
“Wide spreading reports regarding Michael Jackson being married are not true. Documents stating otherwise are a hoax,” Jackson spokeswoman Raymone Bain told “Access.”

Drivers Education - The New Hot Topic

It seems that since we have one teenager that is now within 6 months of turning 16, the new topic around our house is who is going to take drivers education, who is going to get a car, who is going to get a sports car…

Since when is saying ma’am bad?

The other day I read a letter in the Dear Abby column that nearly floored me.

Cosby said the answer is “old-time parenting.”
“Don’t tell me you […]

Sack the Net Nanny?

As the Federal Government floods the media with warnings of online perils, an internet visionary has criticized any approach to safety that focuses on filters and stirring fear of cyber-stalkers. Author and academic Howard Rheingold (pictured) says parents should educate rather than censor their children.
He says that by censoring the internet “you are not encouraging […]

Get the most out of your parent-teacher conference

Being the Queen of parent teacher conferences, I can’t say that I would get much use out of this list myself, but for those of you who don’t have to meet with teachers quite as often as I do, this one’s for you :)
Prepare for the conference by:
• Asking children if they have concerns or […]

Easy Arithmetic Tricks

This is a fairly easy trick that we have taught and used around our house.

To multiply any number between 1 and 9 by 9 hold both hands in front of your face - drop the finger that corresponds to the number you are multiplying (for example 9×3 - drop your third finger) - count the […]
